The Process of Wiring a Submersible Pump – The Steps to Follow

Step-1: Gather All Necessary Equipment and Material

- A capacitor
- A resistible thermal overload and
- A DPST switch (double pole single throw)

Step-2: Ensure Proper Safety

Step-3: Establish a Connection Between Supply to Input Wire Conductor
Secondly, connect the supply to input wire connectors following the submersible pump control box wiring diagram. After establishing a connection from the wire connectors, you will have to attach both the neutral and line to the DPST switch.
The next task for you is to get the connection from wire connectors way carefully. Then comes the necessity of connecting the neutral and line wire to the given DPST switch. Up next, you need to connect it with full caution to the reset-able thermal overload protector.
Form the overload protector, you must connect the black wire to any output of the given wire connectors. Now take the neutral blue wire from the switch and connect it to the capacitor. The same blue wire should be connected to the main line of the pump through one of the four ports of the wire connectors.
As the other pin of the capacitor remains free, connect a red wire to it and guide the wire to the submersible cable through a wire connector’s port. Now connect your green-colored ground or earth wire directly with the pump through first port of the wire connectors.
After doing so, you will have a total of four output wire connectors connected with the pump. In which the first wire indicates ground, and the second wire comes from the capacitor, so it’s for starting terminals.
On the other hand, the third one is for running wire for motor, and lastly, the fourth one is used for the common end. So, except the ground connection wire, you need to connect the other three wires of a submersible pump to the control box.

So mainly in a submersible pump, the black wire is common, blue is for running, and brown or red is for starting. But the colors may not always remain the same, and in some cases, the color of those four wires can be different as well.
Step-3: Check the Pump

Then switch on the main circuit breaker in your distribution board, and turn the submersible pump on.

Are the wiring procedures of the 2-wire and 3-wire submersible pump the same?
No, the wiring procedures of the 2-wire and 3-wire submersible pumps are quite different. Usually, the 2-wire pumps come with two black and a green wire divided by two pins. On the other hand, the 3-wire pumps contain black, red, yellow, and green wire which are divided by a set of three pins.
The starting components of a 3-wire pump are tide-up within an extra control box. But the 2-wire pumps do not use an extra control box as all the components are built within the motor itself.
